2022 Student Showcase

Hello, I’m Luke Eller. I was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 2006. At the end of March 2021, I started Culinary for the first time. When I started Culinary class, I instantly fell in love with it. I loved cooking and even though I really struggled at first, I kept trying to do my best and put 100% effort into my work. I slowly improved my skills and began to work past my early mistakes. I love Culinary because I get to try new things and express myself creatively in my work.

Growing up, I never got to cook that much due to my living situations so Culinary class was the first time I was truly able to cook and express myself artistically. Culinary is a way to show my passion and love for what I’m doing. Making new things and learning about different foods and their culture and origins is what I love about Culinary class.

One of my favorite things to cook in the kitchen is sushi. I liked cooking this because it was something really different from what I’m used to.  Another thing that I enjoyed cooking was I made chicken nachos to pair with a homemade salsa. I enjoyed this dish because it was a chance to show creativity and to try and make something in a different way than how others tend to make it.

My name is Jinniyah Humo, I was born in Tucson Arizona in 2002. My first experience in Culinary with Chef  was when I started at Compass High School in August 2019. I was first drawn to this school because I saw that it had a Culinary program. I was excited to be able to learn new recipes and learn about new kinds of foods from all kinds of different places. Chef even got me to try new foods that I never would have before. I even found some new kinds of foods I never thought I would like and others I can say I will never try again. 

My influences came from when I was younger and I would see my mom and nana cook foods that I loved and that made me want to learn so I could make the foods I loved on my own and maybe be able to cook foods for others that would make them happy or maybe make something that someone else might make their favorite food. As I got older I would watch cooking shows all the time so I could see what kinds of food other people would make. I loved watching people in cooking competitions like Chopped because I thought it was amazing the kinds of dishes they were able to make even when they had to use ingredients they may not have been used to.

My name is Lon Nickerson. I was born in South Seoul, Korea and have moved to Tucson. My first experience with working with e-art was this year, when I heard that Multimedia was going to be so much fun. I have really enjoyed all of the projects we have done in this multimedia. It’s really something when you see other students work so hard on something that could take someone with more experience a day to work on. I am so glad that I heard from other people that multimedia was going to be so much fun.

I am submitting my conservation project; a Dr. Pepper can, and my Low poly animal project. What inspires me is my great friend and how he is always willing to talk to me about our personal beliefs and help me understand things better in life. I really enjoy working with Low poly art and filming in multimedia.

My name is Luca Myers, I was born in Tucson Arizona in 2004. My first experience in Culinary was in March-April 2021. Chef took me under his wing and excitedly, I learned many culinary skills I had never known. I learned recipes for good food and was completely inspired to pursue culinary as a career. Cooking has become a passion of mine because of Chef and his culinary class, and I hope to incorporate his teachings into all my future endeavors.

When I was young I always loved the cooking shows, whether they were casual baking, or intense cooking under Gordan Ramsey’s command. The process of starting with a handful of common ingredients and coming up with something that looked absolutely mouth watering was always so appealing to me. Although I loved the shows so much, I was very hesitant to ever cook on my own due to the fear of the stoves, but Chef guided me and I grew to become the confident young chef I am today.

My name is Heaven. I was born in Tucson in 2005 but I’ve lived in Texas and Colorado since then. My first experience with photography was when I was little. I would run around my great great’s (my great great grandmother) farm and take pictures. I’ve always loved taking photos. When I would have bad days I would take photos. Even if it doesn’t become a profession for me, it will always be something I do and enjoy doing. It calms me especially out in nature.

My name is Brooklyn, I was born in Tucson, AZ and I’m 16 years old. My first experiences with art was when I was a child stuck with Crayola markers. I decided that being artistic was gonna be my new thing besides being in diapers and crying. My main influence is Junji Ito and general modern art.

Project Name: patch of mushrooms

My inspiration: The art styles, people or places, etc. I like seeing mushrooms and I like to draw them so I decided to make sculptures. I am using clay and paint to make my mushrooms.

Project Name: Sun set 

My inspiration: The art styles, people or places, etc. I always take pictures of the sunset and it’s always been something I love to do so that’s why I decided to paint a sunset.  The styles or mediums you enjoy working with I usually like to draw small simple things like face expressions or for painting I usually do landscapes or an animal.

My name is Emily J Brooks. Born in Tucson, Arizona, USA in 2006. I work primarily in paint and clay. My influences are whatever I can find on Pinterest.

My name is James Childs.  My inspirations were to try and see how well I could do a self portrait with the first one and I wanted to try and draw a character I liked with the second one. I like more simplistic styles and methods of drawing pictures or characters.

“THE PRESENT.22”

My inspiration for this art piece was the second Cold War slowly brewing. Many civilians of Ukraine were killed, war crimes being committed by Putin and his soldiers. The piece is showing the amount of anger and anguish that rises when multiple people pass away (the nerves of the painting representing anger). The type of style I like working with is Expressionism the most.

My name is Emilio Cardona also known as Milo. I was born in Tucson Arizona in 2006. My entry to the art show will be the penguin low-poly animal project and the avatar creation of the new leaf starter Pokemon. 

My first art project was in elementary where I used watercolors, and I primarily work with digital art. I primarily joined multimedia because at that moment my only two options were art and multimedia and I thought to myself that if I’m going to suffer a boring class I would rather do Multimedia because I had some past experiences with working with digital art through the use of Paint.net. At first I hated dealing with the fact that I was forced into such a “boring topic” but after being in the class for about 3 weeks the subject grew on me. My favorite class became Multimedia and doing fun art projects became my favorite thing to do in school. My main influence for digital art is that it’s fun and it pays off. I’ve never considered looking into a career involving digital arts, however it’s still a passion that I will always come back to.

My name is Nicholas Xavier Hernandez, I was born in 2007. My first experience in Multimedia  was when I wanted to try drawing on photoshop like all the big youtubers. 

My Greatest influences are my friends, virtual reality , some art youtubers like Jazza, Tabletop Time and Real terrain hobbies.  I wouldn’t be here without my friends’ support and ideas. The memories we share is something I hold truly dear and it inspires me to be something greater.

Virtual reality has brought a new spark in my life to see things completely different with so many worlds to  explore. I was shocked and excited to see where this world would go just to know that a few 1s and 0s can change your plain old room into a beautiful landscape that looks crafted by the gods.

Most of all the youtubers who inspired me to become even greater at my art and ideas. Jazza is a cunning and massive brained person when it comes to dumb and fun ideas that really change the way that art is seen. Table top time is a group of people that do miniature landscapes and minifigures for board games and such. The projects they’ve done inspired me to greaten my knowledge and the outside world. Lastly, Real Terrain Hobbies is also a channel that does landscapes and miniatures but he’s just one guy creating such awesome things to allow me to realize that even just one person can do anything they desire to. Fun ideas that really change the way that art is seen. 

My name is Christian Delgado. Born in Tucson, Arizona in 2006. I work primarily in my room. Influences are Lasca.

My name is Adrien Fallows. I was born in Tucson Arizona in 2007.

I usually work with things like paint, and graphite. But recently I’ve been really interested in photography. My drawing skills limit me to what I want to see on my canvas, and from what I’ve seen with photography really inspires me to try more.

My inspiration originally was my mom. I’ve wanted to try photography, like her, since I was around 10 years of age. I gave it up after a decrease in motivation of not getting to do it. Joining Lasca’s multimedia class has helped me regain that motivation in what I’m able to do.

​​My name is Savannah Daniel. Born in Glendale, Arizona in 2005. I would say my work is primarily in hand crafts like building, sewing, etc. My influences are horror, simple, modern, hyper pop, classical, vintage themes.

My name is Kennedy Jones. I was born in Pima, Arizona in 2004, and moved to Tucson just over a year ago. My first experiences with painting was when I began experimenting with new mediums during the pandemic, trying to maintain a creative outlet while being stuck at home. I discovered that I had a passion for creating abstract art, as well as using my favorite characters from media as subjects. This led me to take Multimedia this school year, as I wanted to branch out into other, digital mediums. I particularly enjoy using photoshop to create collages representing myself and those I am closest with. I am often inspired by my family and friends, and the things we have in common, such as our favorite patterns, flowers, and hobbies. My influences are mostly drawn from my favorite movies, books, music, artists, as well as my family and friends. My favorite artists who I draw inspiration from are Yayoi Kusama, Johannes Vermeer, and Claude Monet. I most enjoy using mediums that include acrylics, oil pastels, and photoshop.

My name is Remy Telles. I was born here in Arizona and practically lived here my whole life. I first got into art at a young age. I used to see my sister do a lot of art before when I was young, and it inspired me to do art. I mostly draw but I also paint and do crafts when I can to try and work myself to do different things. But ever since I first learned about art, I wanted to become an artist so I try to do mainly drawing so I can become better at it. Along with painting, I always try to do some painting projects when I can and I love when I do them. I mostly work with acrylic but at times I do love to work with water colors. When I do water colors, to me it feels calming because of how smooth the brush could be. I always get inspiration everywhere I go, it could be from a video I watched or even just going outside, because of how much detail there is in the world, especially sunsets, with how many colors there is and how beautiful it is. Art has been an important part of my life and it makes me become more creative.

My name is Teaghyn Misse, I was born in Arizona in 2006. My first experience in using Adobe Illustrator was in Compass. I never even thought about doing digital art until this class and it proved to be a lot more fun than I was expecting. My influences for digital art are Lasca Lawniczak being one. I don’t really look into other art in adobe illustrator.

I work primarily in simple pencil sketches, sometimes acrylic paint, nothing too fancy. My influences are people like Bryan Charley, Francis Bacon, Frida Kahlo, Van Gogh, etc.

Hi! My name is August and I am a freshman here at Compass. My first experience with digital art was this year during my multimedia class. I’ve always had an interest for digital art, but never had the tools to do it. This class gave me the opportunity to experiment and try out many forms of digital art, such as vector art and pixel art. Something that has inspired me is video games. From a young age I fell in love with the art style, the gameplay, the music, just everything about video games. Recently, my inspiration has been a little indie game titled “Deltarune” by Toby Fox. The way he can build worlds with charming characters, compelling stories, and beautiful soundtracks amazes me. So for this art show, I will be submitting a pixel art of Ralsei, and a vector art of Spamton, from Deltarune.

My name is Dean Campbell. The mediums I enjoy working with are spray paint. I really enjoy graffiti, it’s a very good outlet for me.

My name is Alex Arson Carpenter, my pronouns are he/they/it. I was born in Three Points Arizona in 2006, and since moved to Tucson and now live with my dad. I’ve always been very big into art since I was a kid, and now that I’m older a lot more tattoos. My mom had a lot of them when I was a kid and I always loved them. Years later after a million failed stick and poke attempts I finally got my own tattoo pen for my 16th birthday. I’m still trying to learn all of the little things and I’m getting a lot of good advice from a tattoo artist friend of mine. I’ve always done a lot of painting and drawing and since about 3 years ago when I decided I wanted to be a tattoo artist, I’ve already started with that.

My name is Noah Marshall. I was born in Tucson in 2006.  I am in Lasca’s multimedia.  I use Photoshop and also Illustrator to do my work. My influences are art that I have seen and youtube.

Hello, My name is Gabriel Moss. I was born in England in 2004. My first experience in making Hip-Hop beats started in Compass High School’s Music Production class, using Soundtrap. I work primarily in Rock and Metal, but also in Rap. My producing influences include The Alchemist, Madlib, Havoc, etc…

Hello, My name is Sabastyen Taylor and I am in music production. The medium I work with is sound. The project I will be showcasing is called “L0V3.” My inspirations as an artist and as a whole would probably be Juice WRLD and my homie Yung Vita. They taught me the love for music, and I’ve gone with it ever since.

My name is Gabby Murguia Ruiz.  I specialize in Music Theory and Production. The name of my Showcase submissions are Baby, Flutey, Green Beam, Night Vision, No Entres En Este Barrio (Instrumental), Slipped, Taxman Flip, and Woah. My inspirations are far too numerous for one page. I’ll give you some off the top of my head, though: DMX, Wu-Tang Clan, Cypress hill, ACDC, Slipknot, Korn, Nascar Aloe, and City Morgue. The style I mess around with the most is Sampling. I love to Sample because you can create something great from something that sounds ok – or maybe to make it into a homage. There is so much you can do, and I love it.

My name is Nicholas Thompson. I study Music Production. The works I am submitting are titled: P~o~t~a~t~o, J’s Beat, and Roger Alarm. I have recently been trying my own twist on unreleased acapella tracks, and have made some of my own. For now, these are the only songs that I can show everyone, but if you find me in person, I would love to show you more! I enjoy working with Trap or Sad Type beats, they are my happy place.

My name is Braden Tyler, I was born in Pocatello, Idaho in 2004. This submission titled Bjorn Bones was made for the school’s excellent Welding Program. The inspiration for this was my love of Medieval History. It is one of my first projects so I decided to make a sculpture of a human skeleton instead of a fleshy human due to my limited experience at the start of the project. I enjoy working with metal more than other mediums because of the challenges related to dealing with solid steel.
